Little Things

As Christians, we readily acknowledge that God is always at work around us. That fact is a crucial element of our faith because it declares like the heavens, His glory (Psalm 19:1). God is glorified by our belief that He has everything under control and by our belief that He is aware of every detail of our life. We are his workmanship, and the recipients of His continued effort to evolve us more into His image which is the necessary reason for our participation with the Holy Spirit.

But sometimes I think we get so wrapped up in the things that are consuming our lives such as ___________________ (you can fill in the blank) that we forget the little things that He is doing among us and often in our individual lives. The little things matter. But when we over look them we often miss a blessing.

With the quarantine still in effect for Covid-19, we are only supposed to be doing essential shopping. So today I had to take care of some essential errands, and while I was out I bumped into a young lady who recently lost her father. He was diagnosed with cancer and three weeks later entered eternity. Her dad was only a little older than me, so it immediately got me thing about a little big thing. God continues to bless me with the breath of life. How easy has it been to take for granted the air that we breath? Since I have been wearing a mask, I have come to realize how the unfortunate truth that for most of my life, I took “the air that I breath” for granted.

As I continued speaking with this young lady, I became painfully aware that her father was one of the first people I met when I moved to Rocky Mount, and he unselfishly went out of his way to help me prepare for building the house that my family and I now enjoy. My heart sank as she spilled out her feelings and loss. Though I understood, it was difficult to remain strong for her while I publicly prayed for her and her family.

As I drove home I began thinking. That’s one of my few bad habits, lol. God had planned for our paths to cross to share that moment and in a way that had I not been paying attention, I would have easily overlooked what He was doing and missed the opportunity to minister to her and share with her what that man had done for me. I would have missed not only a blessing that He was trying to afford me, but I would have missed being a blessing for that young lady.

Then I got to thinking. I wonder how many times in our busy-ness we are so wrapped up in what we are doing that we fail to see the little things that God is doing right in front of us. The little things matter. IF they didn’t, Jesus may not have been concerned with dotting the I’s and crossing the T’s when He told us that every jot and tittle would come to fruition. I am not sure about you, but I for one am going to try desperately to pay closer attention as not to miss the hand of God passing in front of me. Be blessed and be safe church family!
