Security in Christ

It is easy to proud when we look at the accomplishments of our lives and families, friends, and the things we have participated in. Many times pride and accomplishments carry over to our possessions and acquisitions because they too say something about our being and who we are. But the truth is, we should never let our stuff consume us or make us prideful because in doing so we are allowing it to define us. We should never even let our jobs define us and we certainly should not allow the circumstances around us to define us, whether good or bad. By now you must know that I am going to say the only thing that should define us is our life in Christ, and that is a true biblical statement. But I just wanted to share something a little extra.

Sometimes we treat Christ and our relationship with Him as if He is our possession, but that is just not so. He is not our possession, we are His possession. Bought and paid for praise the Lord! Nevertheless, we do have something of Him that we can hold as a possession although I think often that we do not fully understand it. That is our life in Crist Our life now and our eternal life are the greatest gifts or possessions that we can ever have and they are ours, hidden in Christ. The hidden component to our lives in Christ does not suggest that it is unknown, it suggests that it is protected from being taken away. It is preserved for our benefit. I cannot readily get to this component of my spiritual being because it is protected from my ability to damage it. Yet, it is still mine.

That does not trouble me, instead it makes me thankful. Every other possession I have whether my truck, tractor, jewelry, books, dishes, home…everything else I have is worn and used. I have put dings in it, and in some way customized them so that they are never as good as they were the day I bought them. But my life in Christ is as good as new, because I have an intricate ingredient of my spiritual being that I am able to appreciate now, but will only utilize later, and that is my hidden life in Christ. If you are saved, then you too have a hidden life in Christ, you are preserved for eternity…find security in that in these trying times.

At the Feet of Jesus,
Pastor Jeff
